Skiing in Kelowna
In the winter of 2009 I was in Kelowna, BC, on a ski trip to Big White Mountain. It’s¬† a beautiful resort with 118 runs on over 700 acres of skiable terrain. They’ve been around for 45 or so years. At the time we were there, they’ve just added “Snow Ghost Express”, the longest 6-person high speed chairlift in Canada.
We stayed with another couple in a nice townhouse with a barbeque and a hot tub on a balcony facing ski hill.
Actually, ski hill was right under us, so when we were soaking in a hot tub after a long day skiing, we could still see people passing our balcony at a high speed on skis.
In a typical year they get about 24.5 feet of snow. I’ve never seen so much snow on ski hills, as at Big White. It was also the best snow I’ve ever seen – the perfect powder.
One of our friends on the trip was a professional chef before, so he volunteered to cook every night. We had a small accident with our dinner one night, when potatoes exploded in the oven and caused a huge mess in the kitchen. I think we skipped potatoes that night and just had lamp with salad.
